UWIC's Demolition Derby

The Big Bang Event!

It all began with a big bang, and then the contest was on!  On September 17, 2011, the United Way of Indiana County went off in a brand new direction and held its first ever demolition derby at the Indiana County Fairgrounds.  Sponsored by the Indiana Lions Club, the derby was a full-day event, drawing participants and crowds from all over, and raising $7,997.  The funds are being used to strengthen services that are positively impacting the Indiana County community.  As a bonus, the derby also helped to raise awareness of United Way itself.  Aided by dozens of volunteers from throughout the county, the demolition derby awarded several large money prizes, along with two six-feet-tall trophies that had been eyed possessively by many derby drivers prior to the event.  UWIC even had its own derby car in the final heat, driven by a lucky participant whose name was drawn from hundreds of entrants into a raffle choosing the driver of the United Way car!
