Big Buck Contest
The $3,000 Big Buck Contest, sponsored by The Indiana Gazette and Bud Light, concluded December 15 with the announcement of the two first-prize winners: Luke Shutty of Northern Cambria won the adult division first prize of $1,000. His 13-point buck had an 18 ½-inch spread. Kaitlyn Smith, 15, of Cranberry Township, took first in the junior division, winning $300. Her 10-point buck had a 19 ½-inch spread. The contest raised more than $2,500 for United Way of Indiana County. In related photos, participants in the contest watched the evening of December 15 as George Douglas, assisted by 2011 United Way Campaign Chair Bob Kanick, measures the antlers of bucks entered in the contest. Mr. Douglas is certified by the PA game commission to officially score for the record books.
